Shopping local – A Q&A with Fishers of Newtownmountkennedy

At Positive we want local Irish independent retailers to thrive this festive season. Supporting local and making thoughtful purchases is so important for many reasons.

When shopping local consumers are investing in their local community, creating a demand for jobs, and thus improving neighbourhood infrastructure. Shopping closer to home is also more convenient, with faster shipping times and the ease of “popping to the shop”.

Sustainability is a huge consideration when shopping locally, consumers significantly reduce their carbon footprint when choosing to shop at local businesses. This is the best choice for those who are mindful of their environmental impact.

We recently sat down with Rebecca Harrison, Managing Director of Fishers of Newtownmountkenndy to discuss all things local business.

Fishers are determined to maintain all that’s good about local family businesses in Ireland, taking a real interest in their customers and building relationships with suppliers, local businesses, and the community.

Who are Fishers of Newtownmountkennedy?

Fishers of Newtownmountkennedy Ltd is a family-owned award-winning, boutique department store located in County Wicklow. Founded in 1979 by the 3 Hughes siblings and partners, it has grown from a small country-clothing outfitter to an 11,000sq ft hub of retail activity with a menswear shop, ladies boutique, gifts, homeware and accessories department and children’s clothing department. They have also brought in other complementary businesses; a hair salon, bed and bedding store, artists workshop/gallery, an award-winning café, and a self-catering cottage, to offer their customers even more on-site.

Run by Rebecca Harrison and Charlotte Errity, daughters of 2 of the founders, since 2010 the team at Fishers are passionate about what they do, and live by their core values of excellent, personal customer service and a superb range of best quality products.
